Hi!
In removing gold using the reverse electroplating with saltwater method. Ive had some success, but recently run into some issues that i thought some people here might be able to help with. Im using lead on the red wire and when i add the hcl at the end to turn the gold, it turns into like a mtn dew yellow instead of the usual black colorS . Amy ideas on how i might be able to fix this or is my gold lost?

Welcome to us.
what was your starting material and how was it dissolved?
I have never heard about such a method.
After you have studied this you can try to explain better.

Her is the study material:
We ask our new members to do 3 things.
1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=19798
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/forums/safety.47/
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/threads/dealing-with-waste.10539/

Hello,
Thank you for the response. The starting material was copper plated w/ gold, and removed using reverse electrolysis. I use a 12v car battery charger with lead on the red clamp and the gold plated piece in the black clamp, and dip it in an electrolytic solution to essentially dissolve the gold off of the copper. I decided to use this method because it’s a safe way to remove gold from aluminum without toxic fumes as a byproduct.

Which is it Copper or Aluminum?
What electrolyte?
So you add one piece at a time?
