Is it malleable?Grinding ore today and this was in the barrel. Metallic, non magnetic. Specific gravity between 5&6. Dissolved readily in nitric. Stannous test was colorless. Tested negative for silver. Any ideas? Thank you View attachment 62626View attachment 62626
Didn’t check that before I dissolved itIs it malleable?
But it was non magnetic. Magnetite generally is, correct? I’m wondering about chromium as it has been known to be in the area.Looks like a nodule of magnetite. Next one you find, put it to a grinding wheel, and see if it emits any sparks.
Add a couple of drops of Sulfuric to the dissolved metal. But it was non magnetic. Magnetite generally is, correct? I’m wondering about chromium as it has been known to be in the area.
It still can be an alloy with Lead, Zinc is whiter if I remember correct.Zink? (Silver and lead is out of the question, if density is 5-6) Try it`s meltingpoint.
I agree. But it can not be lead, as major part, due to the density. Zink gets gray by the time. 10-15% lead max if density 5-6.It still can be an alloy with Lead, Zinc is whiter if I remember correct.
