Okay so I work at a scrap yard and come across quite a few interesting pieces. Well the other day I found what looks like a pad to a shoe but made out of metal. The outer layer was like a reddish purple but the inside is white. So I took it home and tried to melt a piece of it with propane and that didn't work. I added oxygen and it melted. Oh and when I was cutting the piece off with my angle grinder there were sparks. But it seemed like the sparks were coming from the plating. At that point I figured the coating had to go and I soaked the pieces in a vinegar/peroxide/salt solution successfully. Now I just melted a little piece and it looks like a dark purple coating. Well now its looking like a dark brown coating since I put it in hydrogen peroxide to see if there was a reaction. In the photos the larger piece is what it looked like during the vinegar solution soak. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of it before I did anything but I don't think that's necessary. Okay and the two strips are from after the vinegar soak. And the two small pieces, well the one on top is the first piece I ever melted after I soaked that in vinegar and the bottom piece is the last piece I melted. Which was white when I started melting it. I would really love it if anyone could help me to figure out a way to get the melted pieces pretty white because I'm currently creating small skeletal bunnies with articulated arms and legs out of silver but maybe I could add this to the silver and make it even more beautiful. Thank you for your time. And I attached a picture of two of the bunnies which are far from being done obviously. Just so you get an idea of what I'm working towards.
